Maddelynn Wallace’s body was found Sunday, April 16, approximately 14 hours after a manhunt was launched when her family reported her missing in the area of Turner Drive in the Malcolm area of Waldorf.

On Monday, April 17, the Charles County Sheriff's Office said that Wallace's body has been positively identified by the Medical Examiner after she was found approximately a mile from where she had last been seen.

Her body was ultimately found in a 25-foot deep water-filled quarry. She was recovered by members of the Charles County Dive Rescue Unit and her cause of death was ruled a drowning.

In response, a friend of the Wallace family set up a GoFundMe campaign on their behalf to help offset the unexpected funeral costs and burial expenses.

“Sadly, my friend. lost his 10-year-old daughter in a tragic, unforeseen accident. No parent should ever have to face the death of one of their children,” organizers wrote. “We ask you - our community - to come together to provide needed financial support to cover Maddie’s funeral and burial expenses.”

The response to the campaign has been overwhelming, with more than $9,000 raised in less than 24 hours after it was created.

Organizers say that any funds raised will go directly to the Wallace family once services are arranged and finalized.

“Please help us take this worry off the family as they navigate the tough days ahead,” they continued. "Most importantly, pray for them as they grieve the loss of their adored daughter, granddaughter, and niece.”
